Metier FAQ

Can I pursue a pre-existing Métier?

For common métiers (healer, hunter, fighter), yes, we allow multiples (unless there is an abundance), but, remember, variety is cool, so perhaps consider creating a new co-rank first!

In the case of custom, player created métiers that are tailored to a specific character, we do not allow for additional characters to hold them. They are exclusive to the character they were made for.

Do i still have to fill in the form and request if the co-rank has already been created?

Yes, the form should be submitted regardless if it's a new Métier or a slot request. However, keep in mind duplicate co-rank restrictions mentioned above.

Can I request several co-ranks at one time to be approved, but only use one?

Yes. Requesting to see if several Métiers are acceptable is fine and you are free to change your mind and request different ones.

Do I have to request the creation or slot for a co-rank before starting threads?

Yes. On the off chance your request is denied, we ask members to wait for approval before starting threads. Threads started before Métier or Métier slot approval is given cannot be submitted and do not count towards earning your Métier.

Can I lose my Métier?

Yes. If the Métier skills are not actively used in IC threads for a large period of time, you may be requested to reduce how many Métier's your character holds, so keep in mind what you can manage and what skills your character would actually use IC'ly!

What about characters that are already masters of their field?

If a skilled character joins Sapient, they will STILL need to earn the apprentice level before they can pursue the master level. However, to help things out IC'ly, they can take one of two routes:

  1. Get someone to act as a mentor to 'vouch' for them, so that they can have their skills accessed and then have mentor support their request to apply for master level. This would still take 2 threads: finding someone to vouch and of course, showing your skills to them!
  2. Request a master exemption (PM leaders!). In this case, you will do 2 skill threads to earn 'apprentice' level, without a Master being required.

What is a master requirement exemption and how do I get one?

Exemptions of the master requirement are reviewed on a case by case basis: please PM leadership if this is something you'd like to be approved.

Exceptions of requiring a master are considered when a character is skilled already, a viable master is not available (simple skill fields only) or the field does not require the apprentice to be taught the skill.

What happens if the master character goes inactive?

You need your designated master present in one thread: the master thread (in which said master agrees to take on the apprentice). This thread must meet completion rules.

Aside from that one thread of acquiring a Master, the master does not need to be in any other threads. Skill threads can be with any character (with the master present or not).

So if the master character does go inactive after you've completed your master thread, this will not impact your métier submission in any way, so don't worry!
