Challenges

Here within Sapient there are a few ranks with only one slot available; such ranks are usually reserved for high tier or Council positions and can be pretty tough to earn and of course, there are many who would like to hold such prestigious ranks. As such, in the name of fairness, Sapient allows for ranks to be challenged for!

If your character is in a position to be promoted, but cannot due to a character holding the only available slot, you may petition leadership to challenge for that rank.

Criteria to Challenge

  • Your character must be ranked directly below the rank they are aiming for. For example: A Summus may challenge for the position of Faber.
  • All additional promotion criteria must already be met prior to requesting the challenge. If you are required to have a Metier or an AoS, be sure that you have already submitted those threads and it confirmed that you have successfully earned them.

Your challenge request may be denied if

  • Your character is not a viable IC fit for the rank. A distrusted, psycho murder would not, realistically, be supported to challenge or allowed to hold a rank of such importance (sorry), so make sure your character minds their manners!
  • Similarly, since high positions do come with IC and OOC perks, leadership may decline your challenge if you have shown consistent lack of understanding or compliance with pack policies.
  • Your character is not of an appropriate rank to challenge or does not meet promotion criteria.
  • You already have a character in high ranks.

How do challenge work?

Simply fill in the form below and PM it to Sapient leadership. We will review your request and get back to you regarding whether it has been approved or denied. Please do not assume you will be approved and begin IC’ly starting a rank challenge.

The challenge process

  • Leadership will PM the current rank holder, informing them that they have been challenged. The player is then given 3 days to respond; they may step down and hand the rank over or may ‘fight’ to keep their rank.
Failure to respond within three days will result in leadership assuming that you have opted to fight to keep your rank.
  • Challenges take place for the duration of two months.
  • The winner is decided by who completes the most relevant threads within this time span. All threads must be started after the challenge has formally begun; posts made to threads started prior to the challenge do not count.
Content type, word count and strength of RP do factor in. Other factors such as character suitability, player reliability and time within the pack may also come to mind.
  • At the end of the challenge time frame, the challenger and challenge must submit threads to leadership to review. Leadership will review and select a winner based on the above criteria.

Please note: A character may only have their rank challenged for once every 6 months. If someone else has already challenged that character (and presumably lost) within 6 months, your request to challenge will be automatically denied.

If you have been challenged and lost the challenge, you must wait 6 months to challenge back for the rank (this is after the challenge was issued; so you must wait for a total of 4 months after the 2 month challenge duration). However, if the rank slot becomes available, you may earn it sooner through usual means.
